Convector heaters can best be described as air heating devices that transfer heat into the surrounding air, expanding it and thereby heating the space. These heaters work primarily as heat exchanges by increasing the temperature of the air surrounding its heating mechanism.
Once of the best features of convector heaters is that the heating element is totally encased making it far safer for domestic use. While radiator heaters tend to have the heat source exposed, convector heaters do not. In addition to their safety benefits, they also do not require the use of a fan in order to transfer the heat although some models utilize fans for faster heat transfer, which makes them much quieter than their fan operated counterparts.
The three specific types of convector heating systems are:-
1. Oil Filled Convector Heaters - By far the most economical option, oil heaters have cavity space filled will oil that is slowly heated and in turn will heat up the surrounding space. Although slow to generate a lot of warmth, they require very little electricity and are both durable and long lasting due to the limited moving parts. They can safely be used for extended periods of time.
2. Natural Convector Heaters - These heaters draw in cool air from the surroundings and heat the air before passing it back into the surroundings. This type of heater works extremely well and is less expensive to buy than the oil filled heaters, but does require more electricity to operate and do not deliver instant heat.
3. Fan Convector Heaters - For faster heating with convector heaters, the fan assisted models are the fastest heating option. They can heat and circulate warm air quickly but due to addition of a fan, they require far more electricity to operate and can be prone to overheating.
When looking for the style of convector heater that is going to work well in your home, you have a wide range of different design types including baseboard and wall mounted heating. Although both are very effective in heating homes and are safer than standard radiant heaters, you’ll want to keep children away as they can become a little warm to the touch.
Many homeowners have opted for another very popular convector heating system in the shape of underfloor heating which is safe for the whole family and will keep your home warm and comfortable throughout the winter.
